This article examines the history of the creating, functioning and Liquidating of the Orthodox Church in the ancient village of Kaibely (modern Cherdaklinsky district of the Ulyanovsk region), which was in the flood zone of the Kuibyshev hydroelectric station in 1956-1957. The authors consider the archival documents that reveal the history of the church and the parish in the XVIII-XX centuries, as well as written documents and oral testimonies containing information about the repressive policy of the Soviet state towards the Russian Orthodox Church. The authors provide the data on the main stages of the work of the Ilyinskaya temple, information about the clergy and clergymen.
