Introduction. The purpose is to analyze the value contradictions and professional deformations of judges in conditions of judicial control over operational crime detection activities and problems of formation of their legal consciousness. Materials, Results and Discussion. Ensuring the legality and effectiveness of operational crime detection activities is one of the most significant areas of judicial practice in the modern law-governed state. Judicial control in this area is intended to serve as a guarantee of observation of citizens’ constitutional rights when implementing measures aimed at crime prevention and crime solution. Conclusions. The role of judges in the process of judicial control cannot be overestimated, because it is their legal consciousness, which includes legal ideology, psychological stability and professional education, that the quality of decisions made and the protection of the legal basis of society depend on.
