The paper examines the issues of protection of rare and endangered species of animals in the context of the legal aspect. The analysis of the current legislation of the Russian Federation in this area is carried out. In particular, the Federal law "on the animal world" was studied, as it is important when studying the issue of certain features of fauna as an object of protection.
