Legal Protection of Religious Symbols as a Factor in Preserving and Strengthening Religious Identity in Modern Russian Society

The article discusses Federal Law No. 319-FZ of 07.31.2025 «On Amendments to Article 3 of the Federal Law “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations”». The authors analyze the norm aimed at strengthening guarantees and forming a respectful attitude towards religious symbols as an integral part of historical and cultural heritage, religious and civic identity. The paper outlines possible risks, such as an expanded interpretation of the accepted norm, a ban without taking into account the context. According to the authors, special attention should be paid to the need to provide additional interpretation and a clear legal definition of key concepts (religious symbols, historical image, desecration, etc.), as well as technical means of implementing this rule.
