Legal status of unilateral sanctions in international law

The article examines the legality of the application of unilateral sanctions from the point of view of international law. The author assesses the possibility of classifying them as Retorsions and Countermeasures and analyzes the problem of establishing the justification and proportionality of such sanctions. The author analyzes the problem of applying countermeasures by states other than the injured state, if the violated obligation is an obligation towards a group of states, or the violated obligation is an obligation towards the international community as a whole, as well as the legality of unilateral sanctions against specific legal entities and individuals.
