Limits of competence of the lower officials of the police department of the Russian empire of the second half XIX century

The article presents an analysis of the multifaceted area of functional powers of a vast corporation of lower ranks of the police, among which a special place was occupied by officials called "circumvention guards". Revealing the areas of activity of the noted civil servants, the author focuses on the area of law enforcement activities of these officials, whose mission was aimed at maintaining public peace and order in society.
