Advantages and disadvantages of a point-rating system in a secondary vocational education institution

The paper reveals the opportunity of implementing ranking-order student’s academic progress assessment. The positive and negative aspects of this system are outlined in the article, as well as key points and conditions for its successful approbation in secondary vocational professional education. The research underlines result of ranking-order assessment system practical implementation in Divnomorsk branch of North Caucasus College “Znaniye” from administrative staff point of view. The study describes stages of implementation of the organizational and management model for the approbation of ranking-order learning assessment and describes the main results of its 2-year testing in the educational institution. The results of the study showed positive dynamics in motivation for learning and social activity, independent work of students is filled with real content and meaning. For the teaching staff, the evaluation system is a motivation for development. Negative effects have been identified, such as rising levels of anxiety among a certain number of students; motivation of some students to the ranking as a numerical indicator of achievements. In addition, the intensification of the teacher’s activities negatively affects the psychological state of the team members.
