The article raises the question of the social significance of the Komi language, which is on a par with Russian is the state language in Komi Republic. One criterion of the public importance and prestige of the language is its resource potential, especially for those who use it professionally. The article presents the results of survey of Komi Arts students (prospective teachers, philologists) who responded to the open-ended question Is it prestigious to know the Komi language? The findings are supported by the materials received at the students' focus groups.
