The consequences of population ageing entail changes in both economic and social space. A permanent increase in the share of elderly people inevitably leads to the change in view of elderly people and their social role by the rest of society. The increased burden on the working-age population, the intensifying competition in the labor market among elderly and young people, the increase in budgetary expenditures on health and social welfare, the issue of fair redistribution of public resources is only a small part of consequences of population ageing, which are becoming a significant factor in the accumulation of social tension. The response of the society to the changes caused by age structure deformation due to population ageing may be manifested in negative forms such as ageism, gerontophobia and intergenerational conflicts. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to study the causes and consequences of intergenerational conflicts in modern society.
