Techniques and features of translating proper nouns in videogames

Бесплатный доступ

This article examines the features of the translation of proper nouns in video games. When working with video games, translators face difficulties while translating proper nouns, which are considered non-equivalent vocabulary and can be compared to pseudo-realities. When translating, it is necessary to take into account the style and setting of the original game that is intended by the developers in order to preserve the original meaning or sound of the proper noun. Examples of the use of transliteration and transcription in video games are given, and the importance of creating a project glossary is noted. To preserve the setting and style of the game intended by the developers, the translation should stay within the framework of the original game's universe.
