Teaching grammar is an important aspect of developing students’ communicative competence in the process of teaching a foreign language at the university. Current requirements for graduates of higher educational institutions include developing foreign language communicative competence, the development of which is facilitated by the use of innovative teaching methods. This article analyses the specifics of using the inductive method in teaching English and characterises its advantages compared to the traditional deductive method, according to which the development of new grammatical structures begins with the teacher’s explanation of rules. Using the inductive method assumes a more active role for students in foreign language learning. Here, mastering the grammatical structure is carried out by analysing the specifics of its functioning in the context, which contribute to better understanding and memorization of information. Students plan rules independently based on the analysis of the examples, which contributes to a deeper understanding of the material being studied. Because of practical research, a system of exercises on the topic “Passive Voice” has been developed, demonstrating the use of the inductive method in teaching foreign language grammar to students in non-linguistic areas of training. Using the inductive method has several undoubted advantages, since it contributes to the development of observation, linguistic intuition, cognitive independence, and motivation in students who become active participants in the educational process, demonstrate more interest in the topic being studied, and remember the information better.
