The article is devoted to the application of the competence approach in education of children and adolescents with severe intellectual disabilities in social enterprises. The article provides an overview of existing educational laws for children with mental disabilities. From the scientific standpoint reveals the modern understanding of the concept of "competence" and its application to the category of children and adolescents with mental retardation. A conclusion is made about the demand for the application of the competence approach in education of children and adolescents with severe intellectual disabilities. The main aim of education for children and students with mild mental, moderate and profound retardation is mastering set of knowledge, skills, ways of life different needed to solve life's problems and to achieve the greatest possible independence, autonomy and adaptation. There is a detailed description of the necessary pedagogical conditions of training and education of children with intellectual disabilities in the article. This article describes a practical experience in the implementation of educational models based on state budgetary institution of the Center for family education "Faith. Hope. Love". The proposed model is based on a social network interaction, educational institutions, and other entities of socialization of children with severe mental disorders. The article is of interest to scientists and practicians who study modern educational models, the activities of social service organizations for children with moderate, severe and profound mental retardation, as well as students of defectology faculties of pedagogical universities and parents of children with disabilities.
