The article considers the project method as one of the pedagogical tools of optimizing classes in the process of teaching students decorative and applied art. The process of implementing creative tasks in developing students’ projects aimed at the formation of professional competencies at the specialty 54.03.02 «Decorative and applied art and crafts» is studied.
