The system of principles of criminal proceedings, despite its development to date, still needs to be specified. In the context of the humanization of criminal policy in Russia, the authors propose to legislate the principle of priority protection of human and civil rights and freedoms during criminal proceedings. This will not only focus attention on the fact that the main function of the criminal process is protective, but will also make it possible to further specify the criminal procedural legislation in terms of ensuring the safety of all participants in the criminal process.
