Principles of defining boundaries of translator’s commentary

This article is devoted to defining the boundaries of translator’s commentary in translator’s discourse. I argue that translator’s commentary is a speech act, with the illocutionary purpose aimed at changing the addressee’s evaluation of the utterance in target language. The hypothesis that commentary is organized according to principles of core and periphery is developed. The volume of core and periphery is dependent on whether the commentary belongs to the discourse of concord or the discourse of expert community.

Translator's discourse, illocutionary purpose, discourse of concord, discourse of expert community, translator's commentary
