Detection and failure of detection problems: decision-making on comprehension and failure of comprehension

Several studies have shown that even in simple psychophysical tasks subliminal perception exists, moreover, different values of thresholds for the same stimuli are possible to exist at the same time. These results allow to consider the concept of threshold otherwise. It is argued that not a threshold of sensory system signal reception which is linked with physiological ability of the organism is often fixed in psychophysical experiments, but the threshold of awareness of the signal. The value of this threshold depends on the hypotheses accepted by the mechanism of consciousness and on following classification of the signal to the class of conscious or unconscious stimulus. Thus, any signal under appropriate conditions could exceed the threshold and become conscious or, conversely, go to a subliminal area of indistinguishability.
