The article deals with the problem of the formation of historical consciousness and the preservation of historical memory as factors of ensuring national security in the conditions of distance learning. An analogy is drawn between the “crisis state” of the modern state of historical education and the crisis of the state of historical knowledge at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. The nature of the crisis phenomena of modern information culture is analyzed on the example of the creativity of representatives of the European humanitarian tradition.
