Tolerance is one of the most topical problems of the contemporary world. Family lays the groundwork for tolerance. Children are brought up by society, parents and school. Everyone knows that you should start directly with oneself, work hard, make constant efforts to improve. That’s where the library may help. Libraries as centres of modern civilisation and culture, fulfilling an important civic and educational function should serve missionaries of tolerance. Library is one of the most prepared and suitable platforms for the education and promotion of tolerance and can become a meeting place and place of integration, coexistence of different cultures, religions and nationalities. Resources of keeping-up-to-date libraries, whose work is related to the provision of services to the public, especially children, young adults represent a significant generalised social experience of mankind. It is libraries that become a starting point in the development of tolerant attitudes among the younger generation. Improvement of libraries’ leisure activities is now a pressing problem. The solution to this problem should be sought in all possible directions: improvement of mechanisms, methods of introduction to the culture, development of concepts of cultural institutions in the new conditions, approaches to the model and profession of a librarian, content of activities, planning and management of the institution. Libraries serve as an active socialising institution, facilitate the young man’s evolvement, shaping its legal, civil and moral position, and in our opinion, are the platform for the formation of tolerant culture among high school seniours.
