The problem of functional sustainability of the university students’ competences

The process of competence development of the university students has revealed the opportunity of progressive improvement of qualitative and quantitative competences’ indicators as well as their deactivation. It cannot but raise concerns while implementing challenges identified by the state documents governing the educational process in the universities. The situation is compounded by the fact that the problem of functional sustainability of the competences has not been studied both in Russian and foreign researches. Based on the analysis of the theoretical literature and the author’s experience the article identifies the conditions having a negative impact on the competence development as well as the factors that have provided a functional sustainability of the competences for a long time.
