In modern linguistics, combinatorial linguistics is considered one of the relevant directions - the direction of theoretical linguistics, in which the syntagmatic relations of linguistic units and their combinatorial potential are studied. This article is devoted to collocations as one of the types of lexical units. Currently, the term "collocation" is interpreted ambiguously, there are different approaches to its definition. Collocation occurs in all natural languages, collocation concretizes the meaning of words that are included in it, the way of combining words in collocation is fundamental to the use of language, collocation can "predict" the environment of the main word. Collocations are one way or another the subject of study in the studies of many modern linguists. The following definition of collocation was chosen: a statistically stable word combination, which can be both phraseological and free. In this article we consider the classification of collocations from the perspective of lexical functions. Also we consider the typology, which is based on the semantics of collocations, their functions and other specific features.
