The article raises the question of the destructive role of skeptical thinking in relation to the everlasting theme of the foundation of knowledge. The problem of existential sustainability is raised as necessary to organize thinking. The article focuses on the significance of existential order in the world outlook. We provide interpretation for the role of «repetition» in Hume in the sense of existential significance for the foundations of worldview. The article regards upon the problem of the «hermeneutic circle», which can be the foundation, but constant attempts of going beyond the hermeneutic circle create uncertainty. It is also shown that fundamental incompleteness of representation may well be featured as a foundation of cognition. The authors separate the pre-cognitive ontology and the post-cognitive ontology, in the sense of before and after knowledge. They conclude that usually the pre-cognitive ontology is the basis, but the pre-cognitive ontology is fundamentally incomplete, because it is directed cognition. This incomplete foundation makes it possible to respond to the criticism from principled opponents of the possibility of a foundation, and it may be used as a relevant foundation in an existential sense as well. Because existential cognitive interest in the ontological Givens specifies the current orientation, but criticism comes from the same existential cognitive interest.
