The aim of this article is to study main strategies and methods of translating cacography, namely the "Olbanian language" from Russian into English in fiction texts. In the course of the study, it was found that fiction texts can use some linguistic phenomena to represent a certain era and reflect language culture as well as have a comic and parodic effect. When translating cacography units, a translator must recognize this linguistic phenomenon, determine its function and reconstruct it by means of the target language. When translating T. Tolstaya's novel "The Slynx", the translator successfully copes with the task, but some units of the "Olbanian language" are rendered in common words, which distorts the author's style.
