Realia inevitably carry a certain national connotation which brings certain associations to the readers of the text. The translation of realia often causes difficulties due to the absence of equivalents in the target language. This article analyzes the cultural realia identified in Leo Tolstoy's novel "Anna Karenina" and their translation into German by Raphael Loewenfeld and Rosemary Titze. The study showed that R. Loewenfeld followed the strategy of domestication while R. Titze followed the strategy of forenization.
