The article focuses on the issue of the temporality of human existence which is common for the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and the poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva. Both German philosopher and Russian poet distinguished between the generally accepted understanding of time and the concept of temporality. Analyzing and comparing the ideas of Heidegger and Tsvetaeva, the author reveals that they are united by the belief in the tragic fate of a person under the restrictions imposed by time. While Heidegger saw the tragedy in the fact that a man wastes himself in everyday life and obeys the dictates of time, Tsvetaeva associated the drama of human life with the confrontation between society and man and the latter’s attempts to rise above time. The main goal of both authors was to influence the feelings and thoughts of their readers in order to change their existential attitudes.
