Problems and ways of development of domestic tourism in Russia on the example of the GUNIB tourist center in Dagestan

The present article contains the analysis of current trends and near-term prospects for development of regional tourism in the Russian Federation based on the example of Gunibsky district of Dagestan. In the last few years, the number of Russian citizens who are interested in the country’s tourist attractions and prefer to travel independently within Russia, in particular in Dagestan, has grown several times. However, the pace of domestic tourism development is far from the desired. With its significant natural and recreational potential, Dagestan as the region of mountains, canyons and dunes, located on the seashore, still occupies a modest place in the Russian domestic tourist market. This research aims to identify the problems and ways of developing domestic tourism which is becoming very relevant in the era of the end of neoliberal globalization, new world disintegration and virus crisis. The author examines the mechanisms and measures to stimulate the integrated development of regional tourism infrastructure and concludes that the development of Dagestan tourist centers and recreational resources, including those associated with the growing interest in the ethnocultural heritage of autochthonous peoples, can become a powerful catalyst for the socio-economic development of the local region in our difficult oxymoronic time, world without borders and artificial restrictions.
