The authors refer to the development trends of the modern market of educational services and state the problem of assessing the competitiveness of universities and their educational products in the current difficult geopolitical situation and ongoing fundamental changes in the domestic educational space. The authors consider the issues of the presence of Russian universities in the world market of educational services and the content of the educational products they offer, the features of indicators of market competitiveness, as well as the relevance of existing criteria for assessing the competitiveness of universities and their educational programs, taking into account the influence of external political and economic factors. The authors pay attention to the imperfection of existing assessment methods, which often depend on momentary political conditions, and identify the problematic issues that universities will have to face in this area of activity in the near future.
