The article discusses the preconditions for the emergence of the concept of self-regulatory organization. The main approaches of the institute of self-regulatory organizations are considered. The regulatory framework and the status of SROs in the legislation of the Russian Federation are presented. The main features and features that distinguish this type of professional community are given. The main role of the state and its relationship with the self-regulatory organization are determined. The definition of SRO as an association of entrepreneurs by interests is proposed.
