The article examines the main problems associated with determining the continuity between the organization of the activities of the prosecutor's office of the Soviet and modern periods. As objects of analysis, fundamental criteria were used, such as: principles, objectives, areas of activity. Since the Russian Federation is the successor country of the USSR, it was the foundations of organization and legal regulation that existed during the Soviet period that served as the basis for the formation of prosecutor's offices in the modern version. It is with the help of comparative analysis that it is possible to trace the relationship between the functions assigned to the prosecutor's office and the changes that took place at previous stages, respectively, to identify the reasons why legal regulation is dynamic, as well as the most static provisions. This article provides useful information for researchers, students, and others interested in this field.
