The process of studying the Tatars in late XIX and early XX centuries: an anthropological approach

The article describes the features of anthropological research in imperial Russia, and their relation to the Tatars. Anthropological research of Tatars was more complicated, and had its own specificity, in contrast to the study of Finno-Ugric peoples. Kazan University, a number of its societies, especially zemstvos, became the center for anthropological study of Tatars.
