Continuation of work on retirement: the view of Russian pensioners

The concept of active longevity (supported by the state authorities and part of the business community) is not only based on the idea of expanding social (educational, leisure) activity of the older generations, but also promotes the continuation of working activities of citizens after they reach retirement age. Recognizing the importance and relevance of this life trajectory for some Russian pensioners, the fact that continuation of work becomes almost the only resource for overcoming social exclusion, the article points out the emerging “problematic points” considering this strategy as the only one. The article points out the “problematic points” of introducing such a strategy into society. Based on the results of a sociological study of Russian pensioners, the reasons for their continued employment have been identified, and the forced (dictated by external circumstances) nature of such involvement in society has been demonstrated. The article substantiates the need for a differentiated approach to designing programs for senior citizens (state and intra-corporate employment assistance programs) based on a systemic analysis of pensioners' and pre-retirees' perceptions of changes in their social and labor status.
