Postgraduate pedagogical education system developing in modern conditions makes actual requirements for the design and organization of not only traditional lecture classes, which are currently conducted in various innovative formats, but also for practical classes with teachers.Within the framework of a personalized model of professional development for foreign language teachers, the emphasis is placed on overcoming their methodological and subject deficiencies. The most effective form of organizing a lesson to achieve this goal is a practicallesson in a foreign language. The purpose of the article is to analyze the methodological and subject deficiencies of English language teachers in St. Petersburg identified during the monitoring process, carry out a survey among teachers about their ideas concerning a practical lesson and design the scenarios for conducting a practical lesson in English as the part of the implementation of the personalized model of advanced training for foreign language teachers.
