Due to the shortcomings in the preparation of Master students in the specialty “Translation and Translation Studies” in Chinese universities, it is necessary to improve the quality of the education process. The authors believe that the improvement of the education process is possible on the basis of the active use of the project-based learning. The purpose of the article is to identify the problems of future translators training and solve them via project-based learning. The authors revealed the narrow-mindedness of the Master students and an insufficient general cultural level, both in their native and foreign languages; poor balance between the theory and practice of translation in the curriculum, with a clear predominance of the former; lack of professional translation activity in real life; insufficient motivation of graduates to improve professional and personal qualities. The authors proved that the method of project-based learning, based on an interdisciplinary approach, increases the degree of student activity in the education process. Students are more actively involved in educational and pedagogical interaction, devote more time to independent work; collaborate with each other to conduct joint research. Activation of the educational process based on the project-based learning allows to increase the level of professional competencies of future translators.
