Statement of the problem. We live in the twenty-first century. Due to the constant development of information technology, digital education is becoming an everyday reality in the lives of teachers. The purpose of the article is to disassemble and analyze the professional development of teachers in the digital environment, giving them the opportunity to clearly identify the stage they are at, as well as learn how to use information technology to improve the quality of education. Methodology. The article uses two methods: analysis of literary sources and qualitative analysis. The authors summarize previous theoretical studies, as well as conduct a new analysis of the stages of teacher professional development, based on the qualities expected of a modern teacher in the era of digital education. Research results. Based on the results of the study, the authors identify three stages of teacher development in the era of digital pedagogy. These include the stage of traditional education, the stage of introducing individual information technologies into the educational process, and the stage of the full use of information technologies in education. At the end of the article, there is a list of those digital competencies that teachers should have. Conclusion. The conclusion section summarizes the main point of view of the article, and provides an overview of the contribution of its authors to the issues under consideration. Thus, the authors of the article both studied the available theoretical material and presented their own research. The article contributes to a better understanding of the changing stages of professional development of teachers in the digital environment, which in turn leads to a better understanding of teachers, as well as an increase in the quality of teaching.
