Prevention of destructive behavior of persons sentenced to imprisonment in pre-trial detention centers and correctional institutions

The article is devoted to the prevention of destructive behavior (suicide) by persons in places of deprivation of liberty of the penal system of the Russian Federation. The paper considers the statistical data of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, as well as the results of scientific research on the motives, causes and conditions of suicide committed by convicts and persons in custody. The study found that the high level of suicides in places of deprivation of liberty is associated with an insufficient level of preventive work of destructive behavior and shortcomings in the activities of institutions executing criminal penalties, the psychological state of prisoners and convicts, as well as the presence and condition of socially useful connections.
