The aim of the study was to elucidate the clinicalpathogenetic significance of the levels of the oxidized low density lipoproteins (OxLDL) and antibodies against them (antiOxLDL) in patients with osteoarthritis. A total of 130 osteoarthritis patients were studied by using the enzymelinked immunosorbent assay. The high levels of OxLDL and antiOxLDL were found in 60 and 29% of patients, respectively. Patients with the high levels of OxLDL and antiOxLDL had severe polyosteoarthrosis with secondary synovitis, longer duration of the disease, and profound decline in joint function. These data may suggest a possible role of OxLDL and antiOxLDL in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis.
