Origin and history of development of the definition of "smart city"

The article deals with the issues of the origin and history of development of the definition of "Smart City". The study is aimed at investigating the theoretical foundations of definition and evolution of this concept. The key research methods are analysis, comparison, and logical reasoning. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the clarification and expansion of the concept of "Smart City". We have emphasized the importance of developing and implementing "Smart City" projects for society and the state. The article presents the interpretations of the concept of "Smart City" by various scientists, as well as our own definition. We have considered the process of evolution of "Smart City", its main features, problems, and prospects for the development, proposed a modern model of "Smart City" development.
