Procrastination in pedagogy: «pros» and «cons»

The present article is devoted to the indispensable phenomenon of our life - procrastination, which we usually treat negatively. Below we consider its positive effect in pedagogy and psychology. Everybody has to deal with inevitable procrastination in life. The personal well-being, success in life as well as his stress-resistance depend on his attitude to the backlog (a large amount of postponed things). The authors of the article represented here different causes of procrastination and came to the conclusion that postponing has not only the negative effect on the person's mind, being a Sword of Damocles, but also is positive, enabling the person think his activities over, wait for the feedback from the interlocutor. Doing the homework and passing credit-tests by the students are built on procrastination. The tutors prefer thought over and checked, postponed answers of the students, than their spontaneous desire to “splash out” the information and forget it on the spot. The long-term memorizing is built on the procrastination principle. So, this phenomenon is an unavoidable part of our life, and in the usual negative side of laziness and postponing there is a positive possibility to think over and check the answer. Procrastination is a universal phenomenon and it does not depend on the nationality, language of the person, but on the internal organisation of the man and his culture.
