In this bibliographical review, an analysis of the relationship between anxiety and purpose in life within the Latin American prison population is carried out. Anxiety is one of the three most common psychological disorders within the prison environment. An anxious person has feelings of uncertainty and inability, shows hypersensitivity and alertness to supposed dangers or threats. That is why it is crucial to be able to find something that can help reduce the discomfort of detainees. Thus, examining the literature, it can be concluded that as the purpose in life increases, the anxiety of the inmates decreases. For this reason, it could be important to promote and develop treatment programs that innovate on the axis of expanding and strengthening the purpose in the life of persons deprived of their freedom, allowing each individual to generate a central and self-organizing goal, providing an own identity that contributes to having a frame of reference for daily life.
