Статья посвящена феномену кластеризации внутригосударственных вооруженных конфликтов в пространстве и времени. Автор выявляет и оценивает объяснительную силу и эмпирическую значимость двух альтернативных подходов к трактовке данного явления. В зависимости от выбранного подхода кластеризацию конфликтов можно считать или проявлением неоднородного географического распределения тех контекстных факторов, которые обычно благоприятствуют организованному насилию, или результатом процесса диффузии насилия через механизм «заражения». Автор приходит к выводу, что оба объяснительных подхода нашли эмпирическое подтверждение в науке и их реальное соотношение определяется скорее взаимодополняемостью, чем альтернативностью.
