The author analyzes the process of development of the Ossetian prose, which, being filled with the national features, reflected the heroic and tragic events of the history of this nation (N. Jusoyta's novel "The Blood of the Ancestors"). Ossetian writers retained their adherence to national traditions and focused on the connection of times (novels "The Trial" by G. Cherchesov and "Rivers Do not Flow Back" by N. Dzhusoyty). The theme of the image of death as the completion of the "ritual of life" in the all-Russian literary process of the second half of the 20th century was closely connected with the patrimonial and national memory, tradition, continuity (the works of N. Dzhusoyty, V. Belov, V. Astafyev, V. Rasputin, Ch. Aitmatov, A. Kim, etc.). Prose of Ossetia as a part of the national literature was turned to the study of the inner world of the individual, to the problems of moral norms. It solved them from the standpoint of "rethinking", which was one of its essential features.
