The author substantiates the role and place of psychological and pedagogical diagnostics in the system of pedagogical support for the adaptation of first-year students to the educational environment of the college from the standpoint of the importance of its effectiveness for the further professional development of students. The essence of the concept of “psychological and pedagogical diagnostics” is revealed. The directions, indicators and methods for determining the level of psychophysiological, socio-psychological and educational-professional adaptation of first-year students to the educational environment of the college are presented. The results of psychological and pedagogical diagnostics of the level of adaptation of students, carried out on the basis of Penza College of Architecture and Construction, are characterized. Based on the analysis of the data, the necessity of psychological and pedagogical diagnostics as an important component of the organization and pedagogical support of the adaptation of students of the institution of secondary vocational education has been proved. The presented toolkit for diagnosing the level of adaptation of college students can be used in the practice of vocational education organizations
