Psychological and pedagogical aspects of training cadets to use firearms

Law enforcement officers’ preparation for activities in extreme conditions requiring knowledgeable, reasonable and effective usage of firearms remains today one of the important activities of the educational organization in the system of the Russian MIA. The study of psychologically-pedagogical aspects of such training within competency-based educational approach proves that it facilitates formation of both the established competencies up to the necessary level and future specialists’ readiness to tackle effectively relevant tasks set for law enforcement agencies by the society and the state. To achieve maximum effect in preparing future specialists for possible oncoming activities in extreme conditions which require use of firearms it is significant to take advantages caused by inter-subject integration. Thereby, the authors provide a method of conducting complex firearms lessons based on the method of modelling law enforcement officers’ activity using firearms in extreme conditions as well as pedagogical conditions and psychological maintenance necessary for effective employment of this method. Development of the method, explanation of pedagogical conditions and psychological maintenance are based on the long-term scientific research and practical experiments conducted by the teaching staff of the Firearms training department of the Voronezh Institute of the Russian MIA.
