Publicity as a theoretical problem and its phenomenal forms realized in social practices are of current interest in modern socio-humanitarian research. The category of publicity is revealed in IT as a sphere of collectivity, receiving connotations of community and openness. At the same time, social practice in the modern world demonstrates the presence of a developing contradiction: the number of closed communities is rapidly growing in the virtual environment, while the openness of public discourse is giving way to the tactics of “enclosure”. The aim of the study is to understand “borderality” as an attribute of the phenomenon of publicity in its historical development, in particular in Greek antiquity. Dialectical approach in understanding the “border” as a diffuse socio-cul-tural space serves as the methodological basis. Semiotic analysis methodology proves that the phenomenon of antique polis publicity was formed as a polycode phenomenon, the result of semiotic ruptures and conjugations, which substantiates the novelty of the paper.
Publicity, political publicity, theatrical publicity, socio-cultural codes, semiotic boundary, ontological boundary, polycode phenomenon, semiosphere
