This article, dedicated to the travel of the elderly in Japan, pushes the boundaries of knowledge in the field of tourism and focuses on the fact that the involvement of older people in travel has a beneficial effect on their psychophysical state, contributing to active longevity. Domestic and international travel for older Japanese people satisfies their emotional, cognitive, physical and other needs. Tourism contributes to the adaptation of the elderly in a new social status and has a positive effect on their emotional sphere, psychophysiological and physical condition. The involvement of older people in tourism increases the potential of their interpersonal communication, increases the likelihood of participating in socio-cultural life. Domestic tourism is affordable for them due to the developed infrastructure in the country, high-quality service that reduces emotional fears, financial opportunities, a variety of offers and a choice of tourist products. The travels of the elderly Japanese cover a wide range of tourist destinations: cultural, historical, religious, gastronomic, health and wellness, as well as those associated with nostalgic memories. Trips, both around the country and abroad, broaden one's horizons, enrich the inner world, make it possible for dreams to come true and wishes come true, which cannot but have a positive effect on emotional and physical well-being. Tourism for people of "silver" age is an important component of improving their quality of life, is an integrative means of adaptation, rehabilitation, restoration of vital resources.
