The authors examine the place of working pensioners as a social category, substantiate the need for its research in the aspect of population employment. The study provides statistical data on the number of working pensioners in the Russian Federation, as well as the results of surveys by Russian research centers on the attitude of Russians towards this category of pensioners. Arguments are given in favor of the fact that pensioners as a whole are not a socio-demographic community, but they act as a social stratum in which the working part constitutes a social category with a relevant feature – continuation of work along with receiving a pension. It is proved that the labor activity of working pensioners is not the only characteristic of their activity and can be combined with other cultural, social, and political activities. It is stated that in the current demographic situation, the labor potential of working pensioners must be considered as an important resource for the reproduction of the country's labor potential.
