Ожирение и избыточная масса тела являются одной растущих проблем глобального общественного здравоохранения. В последнее время интерес к ней значительно возрос, что обусловлено широкой распространенностью ожирения среди всех возрастных групп населения особенно у лиц молодого возраста, низкой эффективностью лечебных мероприятий, направленных на снижение веса. Ожирение представляет собой серьезную проблему из-за наличия таких последствий, как артериальная гипертензия, атеросклероз, сахарный диабет, метаболический синдром. Поэтому знание эпидемиологии ожирения указывает на необходимость дальнейшей работы в данном направлении.
