Vitiligo refers to diseases with a fairly characteristic clinical picture and, as a rule, does not present difficulties for diagnosis. In turn, various immunological, enzymatic and other biochemical disorders in patients with this pathology indicate the involvement of visceral organs and systems in the pathological process and, as a consequence, the relationship of dermatological manifestations with disorders of their functioning. The aim of this study was to study the relationship between metabolic syndrome and vitiligo. Material and methods. We studied the clinical and laboratory data of 80 patients with vitiligo and the control group consisted of 20 healthy (without vitiligo). According to the sexual distribution, women predominated - 43 (%), men - 37 (%); the average age was 40.1±11.8 years) and 20 healthy people made up an age-appropriate control group (10 women, 10 men; the average age was 40.3±10.3 years). Results. The average duration of the disease and the percentage of affected vitiligo were 9.5±8.1 (1-40) years and 20.9±11.8% (10-80), respectively. Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed in 38 (47.5%) women and 20 (25%) men with vitiligo, in 15 patients without vitiligo. There were no significant differences in age, gender, or other demographic or clinical characteristics, with the exception of metabolic syndrome, between the groups with vitiligo and the control group (p=0.04). Conclusion. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with vitiligo, since the comparison and evaluation of metabolic syndrome with its prognostic factors in vitiligo has not been studied before. However, the HOMA-IR assessment can provide additional materials and comparisons. Our study shows that the risk of developing metabolic syndrome is increased in patients with vitiligo.
