Distinction between social, economic and legal self-regulation

Modern Russian legal literature is rich in studies devoted to self-regulation; however, debates over the definition and legal nature of self-regulation are still ongoing. This article analyzes the perspectives of scholars in the fields of sociology, economics, and law regarding the concept and content of self-regulation. The author identifies the qualitative characteristics of the studied phenom-enon within the context of each of these disciplines. Based on the results of the analysis, the author proposes original definitions of social, economic, and legal self-regulation, and highlights their dis-tinctive features, which make it possible to draw boundaries between them. The article substantiates the distinction between social, economic, and legal self-regulation based on the subject, object, and conditions necessary for their implementation, as well as their relationship to state regulation.
