In article the question of the lost continuity in design of the urban environment, about different approach to design of pre-revolutionary and modern architects, about need to return to former rules is raised. The lost continuity in city design and its buildings leads to the fact that annually in a historical part of the city a large number of "jarring" buildings with listed buildings and the valuable historical environment of objects appears. The city loses the main quality - beauty and harmony of the environment without which it is impossible to speak about any achievements in the field of modern architecture. Conclusion. The initial planning module of Samara was connected with the size of fortress of 1586 and the church for the sake of St Nicholas the Wonderworker located in the Kremlin. Internal planning had three-part structure; in turn every quarter was also divided into three fields - so the initial module could be equal to 10,8 m (the church and the Kremlin did not remain). In our opinion, the initial module of Samara could be tied also to "a typological number" of ancient churches: small church - 14,4 m, average church - 28,8 m, large - 57,6 m (across the width of external walls within axes). Development of planning elements of Samara testifies that with territorial growth of the city there was an integration of the planning module - along with increase in overall dimensions and heights of dominants.
