Development of librarianship in the Central Chernozem region (1928-1934)

The article examines the development of librarianship in the years of the existence of the Central Chernozem region. The source base of the work is the materials of the State Archive of the Socio-Political History of the Voronezh region. On the basis of primary sources, the article examines the work of libraries, reading rooms and mobile library points. The paper considers examples of both well-functioning library institutions and organizations that cannot cope with their functions. The article analyzes such problems of libraries during the Cultural Revolution as staff shortage, lack of funding, book hunger, low circulation of books, lack of children's libraries. In conclusion, it is concluded that librarianship made significant progress in 1928- 1934, the number of library institutions increased, in conditions of a real reduction in funding for their administrative, economic and educational expenses. The library organizations of the Central Committee played an important role in the processes of the cultural revolution, including in the eradication of illiteracy.
